Episode 71 – Communication between Ballet Pianists and Ballet Teachers

https://youtu.be/xHBbaAzPNkA

This episode is a classic round table discussion about the ways in which the pianist and the person on the studio floor communicate on a deeper level.  The natural hierarchy of the ballet studio will always prevail, but sometimes things need discussing that might upset the status quo.

The whole team are on this episode talking about specific instances where uncomfortable discussions were had, and how they were overcome.  It’s quite a personal and heartfelt slant on this topic with equal input from all.

Akiko has a lot to say on this topic, and rightly so.  It’s a fantastic springboard into further discussions about raising issues in the studio without questioning people’s knowledge and experience, or undermining their authority and status.

The team all agree in this pod that it’s more important how you say it rather than what you say.  Humour and questioning can diffuse situations without the need for confrontation, and won’t compromise anyone’s authority and status.
